How to make traveling with your Canine Companion a success!

If you're planning on traveling with pets, whether it's for pleasure or necessity, you'll need to take some steps to prepare for your dog's needs along the way. Car travel with dogs, especially long trips, requires some forethought.

To make your journey as stress free as possible you will need:

• All dogs must be restrained by law either in the back seats or in the boot.

• They must be adequately restrained via a seat belt and or lead to prevent them from interfering or distracting the driver.

• Use pet remedy spray and wipes on bedding, blankets and the carrier to help reduce stress.

• Pet remedy in the car too – spray and allow around 5- 10 minutes for it dry before putting your friend in the car.

• Get them used to being in the car turned off, then turned on, then a short journey and so on.

• Offer them a light meal 3-4 hours before.

• NEVER LEAVE UNATTENDED IN THE CAR ESPECIALLY IN HOT WEATHER.

• Regular breaks every 2 hours to check up on your friend.

• Take pet remedy spray/wipes with you and plenty of water and change of bedding if needed.

• Do not feed in a moving car in case of motion sickness.

If your dog gets very stressed when travelling, speak to your vet as they can discuss further options.
